Introduction to the Psychology Department
What is psychology?
Psychology is a scientific discipline that extends from biology on one end to self, community, and culture on the other, with highly diverse research areas. Research in psychology covers not only the brain and mental/emotional processes but also child development, interpersonal communication, intercultural differences, the definition and treatment of abnormal behavior, and more. Therefore, psychologists can be found working in a wide range of fields, including academic institutions, public opinion and research organizations, company human resources departments, schools and educational institutions, clinics, and hospitals.
The Scope of Psychology Education:
The Psychology Department aims to provide comprehensive education to students by offering a solid foundation in the theories, methods, and techniques of modern psychology, as well as a general familiarity with various sub-disciplines of psychology. The program aims to give students a solid foundation in general psychology and the necessary skills for research, allowing them to engage in various studies and/or continue to pursue a master's degree for specialization.
Faculty and Activities at Boğaziçi University Psychology Department:
Our department faculty consists of 10 full-time and 1 part-time professors, totaling 11 faculty members.All of our faculty members actively conduct basic and/or applied research in departmental laboratories. The program emphasizes areas such as behavioral neuroscience, psychobiology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and clinical psychology within the scope of education. The department also houses a Psychology Research and Application Center (BÜPAM - bupampsi.bogazici.edu.tr) that provides opportunities for clinical practice and neuropsychological assessment.
Exchange Programs in Our Department:
Every year, our department offers approximately 20 students the opportunity to gain experience at some of the most respected universities in Europe and North America through Erasmus and other exchange programs. These exchange programs also provide a chance for faculty members at those universities to assess our students' competencies and significantly enhance their chances in graduate school applications.
