Frequently asked questions about addmision to Psychology Master/Phd Programs (SSS/FAQ)

Graduate (M.A. and Ph.D.) degrees offered at the Psychology Department are organized into two main areas:  Clinical Psychology and Psychological Sciences. Students in the Psychological Sciences Program choose one of the following specialization tracks: Psychobiology/Neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Social Psychology.

**The following programs will accept new students for the 2023-2024 academic year:

 

 M.A.: Psychobiology, Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology and Developmental Psychology

There is no quota in the field of Clinical Psychology for 2023-2024 Fall. 

 

Ph.D. (with BA Degree): Psychobiology

Ph.D. (with MA Degree): Psychobiology, Cognitive Psychology and Developmental Psychology

Candidates holding a degree from a different major: 

In case these students are admitted to the M.A. program, they take remedial courses for a year. A minimum final GPA of 2.50 from these courses is required for enrollment in the program. Also, if the student fails in any one of these courses, s/he will drop out of the program.

 

Statement of Purpose:

Candidates should summarize in English (in no more than 2 pages) the reasons for applying to the particular subfield, their related work or research experience in this subfield, their expectations from the program, and future plans.

  • Make sure you clearly write on top of your Statement of Purpose which sub-discipline (Psychobiology or Cognitive Psychology or Social Psychology or Developmental Psychology) you are applying for under the Psychological Sciences. 

 

The written exam: 

The written exam will be in English. Applicants should certify their English proficiency in order to be admitted to the program (see Required Documents for Application). The applicants will take the specific written exam for the subfield that they have applied for.The exam will consist of essay type questions on both content and research methodology.

The applicants can use books on Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods and introductory textbooks on the subfield of interest to prepare for the written exam. There is no particular list of books that the department recommends.

Those applicants who pass the written exam will qualify to take the oral exam.

 

Oral Exam/Interview Date/Hour : June 21, 2023

Oral Exam/Interview Place : 10:00 - Psychology Building

 

Reference Letters

We require two reference letters. There is no specific form to be used. Boğaziçi University Department of Psychology graduates are not required to submit references.
